Just like yesterday, I remember writing my final paper in school. I wasn’t really scared going to the examination hall.
In contrast to that, I remember my first examination in tertiary institution, I was terrified.
I had sweaty palms, my heart raced really fast even though I had prepared for the exams.
In the real world, this is what happens.
Even though I hate school, I believe this is one of the best parables school teaches us about life.
When you are in school, you’re constantly looking for the next level plus to get to the next level, you have to take series of tests or exams.
Regardless of how good you are, when you get to a new or next level in school, there’s a little bit of fear or insecurity that comes with it.
Unfortunately, when people leave school and they have a little bit of “temporary” comfort, they quit looking for the next level.
The next level comes with a little bit of fear and responsibility but it is what makes life interesting.
By the way, getting to the next level in life comes with a test too. Sometimes, the test is fear, doubt, lack of finance or even comfort.
Unlike school, life presents us with a test every single day but to pass the test, we have to get past a barrier in order to get to the next level.
Frankly, the next level is where the fun is but you need to understand that you have to move past a barrier.
The barrier for most people is fear. Trust me, it’s easy to get jacked up and sprint ahead with certainty when you keep doing the same thing.
The danger in that is the fact that you keep going through the same cycle for too long.
In my universe, when I start getting scared, I know I’m very close to getting to the next level.
In conclusion, the fear is a good thing. There’s no such thing as being fearless. You’re human, not a robot.
You can only be fearless when you keep rotating in the same cycle because you already mastered that little arena or space.
When you press for the next level, I guarantee you, you are going to get scared.
When you move out of that little box called “comfort”, the outside arena is a bit scary cos it comes with uncertainty.
Being fearless is a myth. Being scared or afraid is proof that you are human. It’s a necessary emotion. Sometimes, you just have to disregard it.
The junction where you feel terrified, scared or afraid and yet push forward is where the greatest lessons/blessings of life reside.
Just so you know, I wrote this article for me not for you but I hope it finds you well and resonates well with you.
As I lay on my bed writing this brilliant piece, I couldn’t help but remember the wise words of Will Smith ;
“Danger is real, but fear is a choice“.
Have a splendid weekend!
