By : Mr Mih

I hope you checked our previous story (Pt 1), if not, I recommend you do so here. So you can fully understand where this story is going.

Enjoy the continuation of the story below.

Everywhere was silent for a second.

The old man cleared his throats and before he could continue, a little boy who sat on his mother’s lap cut in sharply as a result of curiosity ; “Baba, what about the hunter”.

The villagers murmured for a while but kept quiet as they were eager to hear what the old man had to say.

As usual, the old man, didn’t disappoint.

“I hear you son. The curiosity of a child is a gift to the planet. Without it, man would cease to exist”.

” Moreso, a child’s enthusiasm is a gift that the hunter naturally have“.

The women in the gathering sat with more concentration as the men of the village were mostly hunters. They saw this as an opportunity to learn about their men.

The kids present in the village circle were more eager since that was what most of them aspired to be.

The old man continued ;

“The hunter knows deep down that he could get hurt by a wild animal in the forest, yet, he jumps into the bush with courage and enthusiasm“.

“Just like the fisherman, he goes with his tools but he is even more prepared compared to that of the fisherman”.

“The hunter goes into the forest (Not bush) with his peers to call out their preys. They are looking to hunt both the squirrels and the bears”.

The old man took a deep breath while he took a sip of palmwine from the curved calabash placed beside his stool.

“The hunter is scared but the courage he wears makes even the spirits of the forest scared of him”.

“The hunter sets little traps for their preys and come back to it later on to check if they’ve made any score – They usually do”.

“When the hunter sees his prey before it sees him, the prey rarely escapes. The hunter goes after it’s prey in a slow, deliberate but deadly way“.

“On bigger preys like Bears, Tigers Pythons, the hunter goes at it in a meticulous way but when it is time to strike, the hunter is ruthless“.

Everywhere was silent in the village square except the sounds of insects and the sound of some men who sighed deeply as the old man spoke.

“The big preys are like trophies for hunters. They use the big preys that they hunt down to earn respect amongst their peers“.

“The hunter is far from selfish. Whenever he hunts down a big prey, he takes it home to his family and shares the meat with his neighbors and peers”.

“The hunter is a man of perseverance. He leaves his family to venture into the forest. He sleeps in unfavorable condition just to find something to eat”.

The old man paused, looked around and amongst the crowd, a woman spoke ; “Baba, you sound like you’re eulogizing our men”.

The old man with a straight face looked at her in his calm demeanor asked ; “Young woman, have you ever been to the forest?”

With respect, she answered – “No Baba”.

Most of the men in the village circle already began to laugh, but the old man raised his hands to command silence. The he said ;

“Young woman, I wish I could tell you everything about what the hunters face in the forest but not everything that the eyes sees that the mouth speaks”.

“Young woman, respect your man, and let the men take good care of their loved ones”.
