“If you continue to speak this way, you’ll never be a good speaker”
Those were the words of a fellow speaker I met at an event.
He expected me to defend myself but instead, I smiled and said “Thank you”.
I learned at an early stage not to take “unsolicited” advice seriously.
It’s almost always junk.
Moreover, I never dreamt of being a “good” speaker.
I want to be a great speaker.
Thus, if you’re like me, and you want to be a great speaker….
I mean being a speaker that hooks the audience from the very beginning to the very end and leave them yearning for more.
Here’s a list of top 5 Speakers I highly recommend you study if at all you want to hit that level of greatness on stage or when presenting ;
1. Grant Cardone : His authenticity does it for me plus he has this aura of dominance on stage.
His energy is something else too. Very compelling.
If you watch Grant Cardone closely on stage, the dude is not trying to please anyone. He is not even trying to conform.
He’s there to spill the truth. Grant is always like ;
“Like me or hate me, I bring you the truth”.
He is there to punch you in the face with reality.
Every delivery of Grant Cardone on stage, pay close attention to his opening line.
He usually starts with a friendly but powerful hook. His closes are spectacular too.
That being said, Grant….. Sorry, Mr Grant Cardone is also a guy that’ll make the audience laugh at some point in his speech.
The way he paints his ideas are so real that you’ll be able to relate to it and you have no choice but to crack up or laugh.
Lest I forget, as a speaker, if there’s one thing about Grant Cardone you should study…… Study his simplicity!
He uses simple basic words to convey his ideas. That’s one of his super powers on stage.
I consider him a genius at communicating and getting others on the same page.
His mantra ; “Success is my duty, my obligation and my responsibility” – Grant Cardone
2. Les Brown : When it comes to public speaking, Les Brown is a king. I mean, he’s a legend.
He is a smooth talker. He’s a great story teller too. His body posture on stage is controlled the entire time and I highly respect that.
Each time I watch Les Brown, I sense hours upon hours of painstaking practice.
Mr Les Brown is one of those speakers I look up to not just on stage but off the stage.
He uses his personal stories or challenges to pull his audience into his world and that locks you in.
Personally, I love this famous line of his ; “You gotta be hungry!”
Study Les Brown and you’re not only studying the art of eloquence, you’re also studying the art of storytelling.
His energy is captivating too….. Just like fine wine, his energy and storytelling only got better with age.
Les Brown is so good, he comes at you from different angles.
He uses his childhood struggles as a hook. Sometimes his recent struggles, sometimes, ancient stories.
Les Brown is just loaded. Like I said earlier, he’s a legend.
Les Brown is one of those speakers that’ll never be forgotten in the history of mankind.
If you want to be a legendary speaker, you better study Les Brown – That’s a non-negotiable!
3. Steve Harvey : Steve Harvey’s a stand up comedian but he built himself into becoming more and that’s why I respect him.
From being a stand up comedian, to being a motivational speaker, to hosting his own shows, that’s just incredible!
The way he tells his story is quite unique… Impeccable I must say!
He sometimes gets emotional on stage and that just gives me chills. You feel the authenticity.
Steve Harvey is a man that’s not afraid to be vulnerable on camera or in front of the world.
If you watch a couple of his videos, you’ll realize he’s got a relationship with God and he’s willing to promote that too.
He’s not afraid to use the scriptures on stage, whether it’s comedy, motivational talk or hosting an event.
I love the way he answers questions.
As a comedian that he is, you can’t help but notice how he handles trolls, negative questions or negative comments about him.
Steve Harvey is a Pro to say the very least when it comes to public speaking. Worth studying!
4. Joel Osteen : Although, I haven’t watched much of Joel Osteen on stage but the few videos I’ve watched, I was blown away.
He has never disappointed. It feels as though every word that comes out from his mouth is a stress reliever.
He is a preacher but not many preachers or even speakers can match his ability to communicate.
He has this poise when he’s on stage and he exudes serenity in the way he talks. He has a very calm, sweet way of talking that just melts your heart.
His body posture on stage is excellent too.
Yes! That’s me.
Why would I add myself on the list of the greats?
Because my self-esteem is in healthy shape!
Plus, I’ve been blessed to grace a couple of stages and the audience has never left disappointed!
Am I trying to promote myself?
Big YES. If I don’t, who will?
It’s not enough to be a great speaker, you have to be a doer too.
I’m working on both.
Perhaps, I don’t want to talk too much about my abilities on stage. I’d much rather prefer to show you.
Thus, if you have an event where you kind of need a speaker to treat topics like ; personal development, entrepreneurship, mental health, improving communication skills, motivation/inspiration, goal setting, building healthy relationships, content creation and anything related…… I’m your guy!
